I had an episode around this time last year where I had mid cycle spotting, and then again in the the last week before my period. I had treatment for CIN3 in 2007 and am on annual smears so was really worried that there was something untoward going on with my cervix. I went to a private clinic for a colposcopy, despite having a negative smear and hpv test a few months previously. The colposcopy was also clear and the consultant diagnosed dysfunctional bleeding and prescribed norethisterone, which I didn't take because it had caused real problems for a friend of mine. Anyway, the spotting didn't return the next month, or for the rest of the year, and I thought that would be that.
But I've now had mid cycle spotting again for the last two months and it's worrying me. I'm not taking any hormonal contraception so it can't be due to that.
I suppose I should go back to the consultant to see what's going on. But if it's not a cervix problem then what could it be? I'm 36 - could it be hormone imbalance? I'm just wondering how unusual this is, and whether anyone has had anything similar.
