Calling any doctors or those who know about ENT

I have namechanged as I some nosy family know my posting name, and this isn't about me, its about DD2.

She had tonsillitis in year 9 (she's in U6 now, 18 in 3 months) and went on penicillin which sorted it out, easy peasy.
But it left her with one tonsil enlarged, as in you can see it very clearly, and it has never gone down. This is full of holes (craters really), which get full of white lumps a few times a week, probably food, which make her throat stingThis gives her very bad breath, and she has to dig them out, irritating her throat further.

It hasn't been like this always, but for the last year she has had them almost constantly, though she never has got tonsillitis again. We have tried the whole gargling with anti bacterial mouthwash, which did nothing.

She isn't keen on going to the doctor unless they will actually do something iyswim, so I am really wondering if, as a doctor (or in your experience), you would refer her or consider her as a candidate for a tonsillectomy, or just send her away as in the grand scheme of things its hardly life threatening.

TIA

Not the answer to yr question exactly, but my understanding is that tonsils shrink as we get older.
I know exactly what you mean as I get tonsil stones myself and can't even dig them out, so have asked a dr to step in for that.
I also use some homeopathic stuff from time to time to help them to come out and I also noticed that they would slide out easier if I have olive oil on my salads.

Thanks for that nightcat, I haven't looked into homeopathy yet but I will definitely consider it.

Unfortunately she can't stand olives :o

Bump for any doctors

DH is a doctor nad we've talked about this a lot as my DS had a very similar problem.

His tonsils were massive, with big craters. It is true that they do usually shrink when kids hit puberty but DS was 10 when he was advised to have a tonsillectomy. They had been bothering him for years and tbh there's no guarantee they'll shink by 15 anyway,
Best thing we've done. Quick, day surgery, no more bad breath, no more sore throats and no more bother.
Don't bother with homeopathy...if they nedd to come out they should be removed, just go to your GP for an ENT referral and take it from there
