My hands are very dry at the moment so ive just started using aveeno cream on them but there is a small but quite deep split in the skin next to my thumb nail..what can i do to make it heal a bit quicker? It is so sore!!! Will aveeno sort it if i keep rubbing it on my hands?

Lansinoh (the nipple cream) is great for cracked, dry skin. My dh gets a lot of splits in his hands and if he slathers some Lansinoh on before bed it seems loads better in the morning. Its also good for chapped lips.

If it's really sore and doesn't seem to heal v quickly it could be infected (if so go to chemist/GP for antibiotic cream) or it could be atheletes foot...sorry I know that is bleurgh but it is possible to get it there too (in which case you need the same cream as for feet).

I get this all the time in the winter (no dishwasher, work and play outside a lot etc) as does dh (carpenter) we tape up the tops of our thumbs with elastoplast tape or something similar, neutrogena hand cream for v dry skin and washing up gloves for wet jobs .

Thanks! I had thought about atheletes foot pom!! [vom] Will see how it goes with the new cream im going to get..it is making my thumb ache so could well be infected couldn't it...or maybe just very very sore. Will keep an eye on it!

I had some neutrogena hand cream in a small tube somewhere!! Can try that as well then.

Thanks for your help :)

Or you could try Flexitol.

I get this too - it is horribly sore. Eumovate cream works (it is a steroid cream) - you can buy it at Boots over the counter.
