is it the the same as having them hoovered out,my dd had hers hoovered out get all the hardened wax out.

Do you mean like the alternative to syringing?

I had this done as a child and it was soooo much better than syringing which was agony. Using the vacuum it is literally just a little tube which sucks the wax out - not painful at all. Very simple.

My dd has had this last March and we're going for a checkup and another go (if necessary) next week.

The procedure is as Gobbledispook describes, although my dd did find it a bit uncomfortable. The result was fantastic though and it is quick.

She has not had a problem since, whereas she used to have nasty problems with wax expanding and causing terrible pressure pain, especially if she got water trapped in her ears. This went on for years and her hearing used to become temporarily dulled which must've been horrible. This happens because her ears are very tiny inside - as she gets older and grows the problem seems to ease.

I think she may have found the suctioning uncomfortable because she's had all this going on over the years, all the prodding about has made her quite sensitive there. I used to suggest syringing but they don't do it in very young children. Suctioning is supposed to be better too, but again, we had to wait till she was 6 or 7 seven to have it done.

Hope it goes well for your dd
