DH is 39yo. We knew he had high blood pressure but the 24hr monitor he did came out with an average of 140/99 with his highest reading being 190/130. He's been put on ramipril 2.5mg

More suprising is that his fasting blood glucose was 6.2. He's going to see the diabetes nurse. I guess she'll talk to him about diet and hopefully we'll be able to control it that way instead of drugs.

Not sure why I'm posting but don't really want to talk to him too much about it and stress him out!

He's really going to need to adjust his diet - he's about 3st overweight and as well as his evening meal of chicken with pasta in a tomato sauce has also eaten a jam sandwich, a cornetto and a mini-magnum since getting home from work. He's the stubborn sort though and won't thank me for telling him that he shouldn't be eating ice cream. I guess we'll need to adjust our shopping habits too!

He shouldn't have been diagnosed with diabetes based on a fasting blood sugar of 6.2. Diagnosis is done where there is a FBS of 7 or above, or non-fasting of 11 or above on 2 separate occasions.

He may well have Impaired Fasting Glycaemia which, if not kept in check, will usually lead to diabetes within 5-10 years. The advice will generally be the same, so careful diet and lifestyle choices! The Diabetes Nurse should now have him on her radar and help him to stay well.

Check out Diabetes UK for lots of helful info

Now that he has been diagnosed with hypertension and started Ramipril hopefully his BP will start to come down nicely Smile

Thanks Sidge

That makes sense about the diabetes. He is to see the diabetes nurse for diet advice and a non-fasting blood test.
