Broken toe- is it worth going to A&E?

I kicked a concrete step this afternoon, my little toe is a very pretty shade of purple-black.

Mum wants me to go to A&E but tbh I don't see the point. The most they'll do is tape it up. I can do that at home without all the fun of 4 hours in the A&E waiting room!

Have swapped cars with my dad as I need to pick up DD tonight and I can't change gear in my manual, dad's automatic is much cleaner easier! Grin

They won't be able to do a lot. But it's your call.

Tape it to the nearest toe. Elevate and rest it as much as possible. Take ibuprofen - not just for pain relief but it is also anti- inflammatory so will help the healing process. If it's still very bad in a few days then go.

I broke my little toe a few years ago and went to a and e, they x rayed to confirm and then taped it up. They wanted me to go back for an x ray 2 weeks after cos it was a strange break or something but I never went back as I am a bit squeamish about bones. Anyway fast forward a few years and all fine :) They would prob just tape it, x ray it and give you some paracetemol.

I do feel for you hope it heals quick, it was very painful

Mum's been on the phone to say she'd come to A&E with me, so I told her I was waiting for NHS Direct to ring me back. Then I had to get on the NHS Direct website because then I wouldn't have just lied to my mum... Blush

Can't wait till I've picked DD up and can come home and have some proper scotch pain relief.

Just hope NHS Direct doesn't tell me to go to A&E. I will nicely decline.

I broke my little toe and went to the minor injuries clinic. They just buddy strapped it to the next toe.
