hi, my 17month old daughter woke this morning with a terrible rash all over her.
the spots are large red bumps that are at their worst at the tops of her legs and under her arms, she was seen at a&e and they think its a viral infection, the spots look almost like big bites. just wondering if any other mums have seen this before?

Hi Izzybiz, you did the right thing to take her to A&E. We have experienced post viral rashes before and they do look alarming.

Calpol and keeep cool!

My DS (also 17 mths) had something very like this last week. Big lumpy spots all over, especially his knees and torso. It seemed to me like an allergic reaction, although he's never been allergic to anything before.

Spoke to the out of hours doc who agreed with me it was probably a one-off allergic reaction as it sounded like hives. Apparently one off allergic reactions are v. common in children. He advised me to give him piriton which I did.

It seemed to clear up the rash on his body but when he woke up next morning with a really puffy, swollen face and eyelids. I kept dosing him with piriton and the next morning he was pretty much back to normal. Apparently these things can take a couple of days to go. He wasn't poorly with it and he's absolutely fine now.

if its an allergic reaction to something piriton normally improves it within about half an hour. Soap powder residue in sheets would be the suspicion for bumps that come up overnight or possibly dust mites.

thanks, the doctor has checked her glands which are swollen and her tonsils are too, but its the strangest thing ive ever seen!! she looks awful.

sounds like its an infection with the swollen glands. I'm always glad when it isn't an allergy
