Hi- i had a long and painful delivery of an extremely large (9lbs 6oz) girl 20 months ago- and ever since I have had pain during sex- for a long time i was convinced the midwives had left a shard of glass in me when they sewed me up! i have been through over a year of check ups and "can't you just live with it" conversations and finally- last week- i went to a clinic at the hospital where they actually did a "procedure" which involved cutting me open again, and not sewing it up- just putting some silver nitrate there to stop the bleeding. And then i was sent on my way 20 mins later to walk back home in agony and a deep deep fear that this may not solve it and I am going to have pain every time i have sex for ever more... leading to not only my frustration but also my partner who may look elsewhere.

Argh has anyone been through this and can encourage me that it is worth it and it will be ok eventually?

I remember being warned about no sleep and getting covered in puke from a baby but not going back after nearly two years to be cut open again!

Thank you for your time... x

Ouch! Sorry!

Were you seen by a gynae before this was done?
I haven't had it done but assume that it was carried out as they think a natural tear heals better than one that is stitched.

What information were you given? Do you have to go back for a follow up in a few weeks?

If you aren't better soon, go back to your GP and ask for more help.

thank you...she seemed very professional and calm about it, as if she does hundreds a day! i was hoping they might have sent me away with some hefty painkillers but they just said take paracetamol- so i went into the nearest pharmacy and explained id had an operation and needed the strongest pain relief they had- and pain-eze and half a bottle of wine numbed me enough to sleep! i'm sure its going to be fine- i was just after any "success" stories from people who could encourage me!
