Gall stones.......op or not?

Hi,

I have had gastric problems for years now..I put it down to issues from my last pregnancy (reflux, pain in ribs and back etc)

I have been on lansoprazole for 2 years now to try and deal with the reflux but its getting worse.

However, after a jaundice attack at xmas I went to my GP, had a scan and it revealed gall stones.

My question is....should I have the gall bladder removed? My sister had gall stones and had real problems with repeated infections/pain. Her op was complicated too as she had left it so long the gall bladder had attached itself to her other internal organs.

Is it a day case op? Can you have it done under local anaesthetic?

Am wondering whether if I have it out it would clear up lots of my niggly problems...back pain, reflux etc

any experience?

Hi There, I feel for you as gall stone pain is unbearable and up there with childbirth in imho!
I had my gallbladder removed but was advised to lose weight first and despite being admitted to hospital was turned away the 1st timne despite the awful pain. The 2nd time however they kept me in and did the op. I was in for about 3 days if I remember right and had a GA but this was 4 years ago so maybe it can be done under local now. I had the laproscopic op (3 holes rather than actually cut open) and apart from one of the scars getting a bit infected have had no probs since and was just grateful not to have the horrendous pain anymore.
You don't say whether you are getting any pain from them? It may clear up the other issues but I would check with a doc.'Best of luck with whatever you decide xxx
