Scab on lip won't heal - any suggestions?

Aftermath of a cold sore.

Open mouth wide to eat a sandwich - splits

Scab came off last night while asleep - woken by dripping blood

Too much lipbalm (trying to keep it flexible) - scab comes off again

Any tips?

No ideas?

could you put a compeed patch on it? these seem to prevent overdrying

What's that? Like a blister protector? Might be difficult as it's right on the lip.

i feel your pain, coldsores are a PITA. I use Compeeds and they really do help to heal them up and help with the scabby stage, even when they're right on my lip. Blistex is good as well though - just a bit plopped on top from a cotton bud - so that it keeps the scab from completely drying out but also helps it to heal up.
