7yo DD (small for her age) has lump behind nipple

DD just said her nipple has been sore since yesterday. I had a look and she has a hard lump behind it. I've done a search here and there are lots of threads about this happening to girls and it being breast buds but it's mainly 9-10 year olds. DD is 7.5 and really skinny, she even wears some age 5-6 clothes. She looks far too young for the start of puberty. What else could it be? Or can breast buds really appear that young?

thay can.

but if they are sore then i think it only wise to get her seen by your GP.

Really? puberty? Gulp.

I told her if it's still there in a couple of days we'd go to the doctor.

Hello Shiney! Long time no MN. But as soon as I've got a problem, guess where I turn to!

sounds like breast bud and i can see why you'd be unnerved... the thought of my 5yr daughter starting puberty in only 2 years is daunting to the max. i would definitely get her seen by GP.

Very unnerving indeed, especially as I always thought that girls that started puberty early were normally big for their age. I think I'll make an appointment tomorrow after all.

Shine, I'll go find you. I can't believe you're still carrying on with the threads - it's nearly 2 years now?!

Girls can get breast buds at any age and they often go away again without the onset of puberty. My Dd had one last year age 3 but it went again.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/02/2011 21:47

Was just going to say my god daughter also v slim and generally petite had breast buds appear at 7/8 and then they disappeared. Hers were v sore and her parents took her to the GP.

Dd has one again! just one...

vacaloca · 11/02/2011 19:56

We did take her to the GP. She thought it was unusual to have one so early and she called in the pediatrician who said yes, completely normal and nothing to worry about.
