Very heavy period after stopping bf

Ds is 9 months old & just stopping bf'ing at the moment. My first proper period started on Tuesday (previously had one very light one about 4 months ago). Yesterday the bleeding got really heavy - soaking through a super plus tampon plus a small sanitary towel within an hour. Sorry if this is tmi! It is still really heavy this morning. When I say on the loo after getting up, the blood was just pouring out of me. Before being pregnant my period would last about 5 days with only one heavy day, and not as heavy as this. I'm also feeling a little faint thus morning.

Should I see a doctor or is this normal after not having a period for so long?

Well, my first period after finishing breastfeeding was heavier than previous ones, but not that heavy.

Is there any chance you could be pregnant and that this is not a period? (Sorry)

No, no chance of being pregnant (unless it was an immaculate conception!!)

googled it & sounds like it is quite common for first few periods to be very heavy before settling down.

My bleeding seems to have eased off a bit now thank goodness & feeling a bit better.

Oh good, mine didn't take too long to settle down so hope yours are the same.
