Evening primrose oil for PMT?

I get really bad PMT and have taken evening primrose oil for it, but have been a bit haphazard with my doses.

Just wondering for those of you who take it and find it really helps, how often do you take it (every day or just before PMT time?), what strength do you take and do you think some brands are better than others - ie. is it worth paying extra for better quality?

I took it for months and months and upgraded to the super strong starflower oil. Never noticed a blind bit of difference.

I took starflower oil too, & did find that helped, where as the EPO didn't & as bonus I found out taking it means no hangovers after a night out Wink

Wow really rockinhippy about the hangovers?

Of course you can get starflower and evening primrose oil together but was recommended I try evening primrose first.

Come on, where are all you PMT ladies??

:) ..... I had a French friend staying over & she spotted the jar, she told me thats what they took it for in France, ....they take it the afternoon before going out on a bender...I realised she was right, as I used to like a weekend drink (or severalBlush & hadn't had a proper hangover since starting on it

good luck getting more info

EPO helped me but im supersensitive to any dietary and medication changes so perhaps thats why?

Vitamin B complex is also supposed to help (think it's B!)

I've been taking Holland & Barratt 1300mg epo every day for three months. They suggest taking it a week or two before period but I just kept taking them. For the last two months my periods have crept up on me without the usual warning signs of hysterical mood swings and spontaneous bursting into tears. Normally the crying is my sign that period is on its way but I felt fine and consequently wasnt prepared when it came and I was out and aboutBlush. Hope you have as good results with it but maybe the starflower oil mentioned might be worth trying too.

rockinhippy, wow will definitley try it, hangovers are TERRIBLE now I'm on the wrong side of 30.

MrsRichardHammond, I've taken B complex before as it's supposed to be brilliant (esp for veggies like me) and have been thinking about going back on it anyway.

ellaeleven - brilliant news, so glad it's helped. I thought I'd heard that if it's going to work, it should after about 3 months. I wonder if it would have worked anyway if you took them for 2 wks before - otherwise it can get really pricey. Having said that I will take them every day if I need to, you can't put a price on being sane!
