SIL found a white hair on her dd's head.........

One single white hair popping up, her dd is only 3.5. This has really freaked out.

Should she go to GP? Said she feels a bit neurotic going to doc's for 1 white hair.

Anyone any experience of this?

I think it's prob nothing to worry about and is one of those things that can just happen....My hair is really light blonde and very thin but I have one really thick jet black hair in my fringe!!

DD is blonde but has one very dark black hair...
She SHOULD NOT go to the GP - that would be unequivocally neurotic, could mention it to HV, but its just her dd's gene pool!

I've spotted quite a few on my 5 year old ds's head, I thought it a bit strange but not even thought about going to the GP

I have to agree with her that it would be a bit neurotic going to the GP for one white hair!

I think she should relax ... the colour of one single hair isn't a problem, and hair tends to be made up of lots of different colours anyway. My dd is blonde, and she has some white hairs; it's just the way she is.

I have auburn hair and red/fair haired peole often have the odd grey hair. Doesn't mean that they are going grey. Personally I wouldn't worry about it

son has one on his crown.. he's had it since he was small!

she'd be better off taking her to the hairdressers than the doctors.

all of the girls in our family have always had 3 white hairs since birth.

It's when 3 become 5 become 15 become 50 that I'll get concerned lol

My dd has 1 white hair, because she is dark haired it really stands out in the light. I had them as a child, because my mum used to pull them out. My younger sister also has had the odd few.

Didn't actually bother me, just thought it abit ing at first.
No need to worry though. My mum still only has a few grey hair at 53 so I hope I have the same genes.

My Dad found one in my hair at age 9. I am now in my thirties and only have a couple, so it doesn't mean a thing IME.

Agree that going to the doctor is a tad extreme.

How weird - my friend spotted one in ds1's hair the other day (he's 8). And he's very dark so it really showed up.

I found one on the back of 16 month old ds's head a few weeks ago. I thought it was cute, it never occurred to me to worry about it.

Glad it appears to be quite common. Think it just freaked her out, cause we have not heard of this before. Think she thought it could have been something a bit sinister.

I'll print this out to put her mind at rest.

I always had about 3 or 4 grey hairs from the age of 3. There is a history of early grey in the family anyway - Dad went completely grey at 19. It was never more than a few strands for me until I hit my mid twenties and even now I only need highlights to cover up the noticable ones at the front because I have very, very dark hair.
