Does it sound like my thyroid medication is too much?

I have had an underactive thyroid for 9 months. I was put on 50mg but didn't feel 100%.

By xmas I was really exhausted so went back for a blood test which had me at 4.5 TSH.

They gave me another 25mg but from the blood test to the doctors appointment 3/4 weeks later I got ALOT WORSE.

I just took the 25mg and left quietly (half asleep) then a week later I went back and demanded it was put up another 25mg as considering how bad I felt I didn't think 25mg would make much difference.

Off I went armed with my new doubled dose feeling uber smug!

1 week later my heart is reacing at night and I can't sleep.

Is this settling in period or does it sound like dose is too much?>

Im dreading going back, he will never listen to me again Blush.

I want to make sure it isn't just because it's a double dose and will need time to adjust?

Get your thyroid function checked again - if you take your tablets in the morning don't take them on the day of the test.
If you don't want to see the GP for this get the practice nurse to do it for you.
Although I know nothing about your case sometimes hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid) can be a transient problem. If it's the more permanent kind you will need to be on thyroxine for life but the dose may need adjusted from time to time. the usual dose for most people is between 100 and 150 micrograms.
