how to get private blood test?

Does anyone know how to go about getting a blood test done privately? Our GP won't do say liver function unless one is unwell, but I would like to simply have a bit of MOT how things are.

I know in some European countries you just go to a private lab and you don't have to see a dr, just ask for tests and pay - can it be done here - if so, how?

Yes you can go to Bupa for a healthcheck. Costs about £100 I think. Details on their website. Best not to just get a liver function test (but if you insist you can go see a private GP and order one - again it'll cost about £100). A top to toe check is better. :)

thank you whomoved, I have looked it up just now and the cheapest is £149 now, doesn't say if you can ask for specific tests but it talks more about risk assessments and measures based on BMI, height to weight ratio etc (which are things one can measure oneself to a point).

I don't really want the personal appointment, just the tests so I can see for myself what they are. And other assessments just go up in price by £££ and still don't say how many tests vs measures, hmm.
Why does it have to be so expensive complicated?

So why do you want a liver function test? You can get them privately fairly easily but I would say first go back to the GP and ask again. Or see another GP.

You can buy Liver function tests on Amazon for £6 Not sure how good they are though.

thank you whomoved.., yes, you are probably right I should try another dr, there are some liver/gall bladder issues in my family and I wanted to check if I am affected.
I think the amazon test might be too basic, will try dr or maybe abroad when on hols.
It should be easier to get this done though and not at the wildly high price, I am sure people would save NHS some money if they had this choice.
thank you, I was in fact hoping that it could be done by walking into a private lab somewhere, not that I have come across any nearby.

The doctors lab will do it but you will need to get blood drawn and send it off (your practice nurse may be willing to do this).

Sorry TDL pathology is the doctors lab. :)
