I am terrified and scared.

Had routine bloods that showed up a problem with my liver function, further tests were done and have just been told I may have hepititas, have taken more bloods today and I will find out by next week.

Can't find a whole lot of info online about peoples experiences and am desperate to find out all I can.

Any information anyone could share with me would be very much appreciated

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I don't have personal experience, but from what I gather it is usually very treatable.

Do you have any idea how long ago you might have contracted it - if you do have it, which you may not of course.

HopeNeverDies · 27/01/2011 11:33

No i have no idea how I might have contracted it

Do you know what type of hepatitis it is?

HopeNeverDies · 27/01/2011 11:41

Not yet, I will know a lot more when the results of these bloods come back. All I really know for certain at the moment is that my liver function isn't very good.

I did use to work as a TA with children with behaviour problems. I've been spat at and bitten on numerous occassions. I wonder if that could have anything to do with it?

It's possible, I think.

I really hope your results show it's something that can be sorted as quickly as possible.

You've reminded me I need to go for a check up myself, so thankyou - and remember you didn't ask for this to happen, and bad things happen to good people.

It's not your fault x

This is quite a good summary of the different types:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/Hepatitis/Pages/Introduction.aspx though might not help much until you know what you've got.

It does sound quite treatable so try not to worry (easier said than done I know).

HopeNeverDies · 27/01/2011 11:51

Thank you.

I just remembered I had a blood transfusion after DD was born!

Well there you go. That certainly wasn't something you asked for.

If you do have it you will cope - and you won't be alone.

There must be a lot of people in the same position.

Beaaware · 27/01/2011 14:10

there is a website called www.taintedblood.info to help people like yourself, unfortunately the risks of contaminated blood via transfusions are still with us today, hope you will be okay.

HND, if it IS hepatitis, its treatable and also a very good thing to have found out - lots of people have it and don't know till their livers are in poor shape. I had Hepatitis C for years (without knowing), was treated over ten years ago and am 100% well and hepatitis-free. If it does turn out to be that, feel free to CAT (or whatever the new equivalent is!) me, or post again and I'll look out for you.

Its very scary to get any sort of 'something's wrong' diagnosis, as its the great unknown...but once you have more information, you'll be able to deal with it. And it may be nothing, liver functions can go awry for all sorts of reasons - from a 'good night out' to viruses. xxx
