Feeling groggy after giving blood

I gave blood yesterday, first time in years. Today I feel a bit tired and weak, but I thought you make up the pint taken almost immediately.

Anyone who gives blood does it affect you like this? Or perhaps I'm just slightly under the weather today for some reason.

I felt woozy, weak and groggy the first time; I am pretty sure it was dehydration which is what they said when I 'phoned the helpline. The following two times I made an effort to drink loads and was fine.

If you feel lacking in energy and climbing stairs is difficult it could be low iron, try a supplement or some red meat. Could also be low blood pressure caused by lack of fluid. I felt like this for about 2-3 days after my last blood donation. The lady 'poked' my test drip so it sank down the test tube when I don't think she should have because I didn't feel well at all and nearly fainted in a hot shower.

Thanks for replies Earthdog and Lemur.

I've had another cup of tea and glass of water. Still feel not quite right.

I'll have eggs for tea (don't eat meat) and maybe pick up a supplement if no better.
