My knee hurts a week after falling - any advice?

I fell off my bike last week after slipping on ice, it was very sore at the time, my knee took most of the impact and I couldn't get up straight away. I had a small lump and some swelling and bruising, but managed to limp home.

When I got home I elevated my leg, wrapped it with an elasticated bandage, I have a tube bandage on it just now, which feels horrible.

Every night I have had difficulty sleeping because of the discomfort, it is not agony, just uncomfortable/sore.

Should I go to the doctor(I feel like I am being a wimp!) or will it just get better?

I'd go to the doctor - you might have done more damage than you think.

when i was about 23, i was drunk Blush and fell over on dance floor. Woke up next day and it killed me and a week later still killing me and could hardly walk, - saw Doctor and i had torn ligaments.

It might not be that bad, but i think if it's still hurting after a week you should get it checked out.

Cheers Cupcakes, I know I should go to the doctor, if it was a friend in my situation I would say go to the doctor. I am reluctant - in case it is time wasting, because well time will eventually heal the damage? It might just be that I am slightly decrepit and aches and pains take longer to heal...

I fall quite often when I am inebriated, never seem to do much damage, obviously because I am so relaxed - not that I am often inebriated, just that when I am I tend to turn into slapstick comedy act.

Hi Taps,
If you sit/lay with your legs on the bed can you raise your poorly leg off the bed from the hip & keep it raised for a few seconds?
Reason I ask is that this is the test they did on me for a broken kneecap....and I couldn't even attempt a lift. I had broken my kneecap in a fall on my driveway. I had no idea & had walked on it for several days before I sought help!

I ended up having an op to repair it & 6 weeks in full plaster but I had done some pretty grim damage to it....it can often be treated with rest & a kneebrace.

Definitely get it checked though. Knees are not a good joint to damage!

Oh demolition, that sounds very painful.

I will try that tonight. I think I will try and get an appointment tomorrow, it seems sorer today for some strange reason, even if they just give me advice on how to help it heal...
