Are you breastfeeding?

fiddledidee · 24/01/2011 00:05

no - sorry forgot to give any background whatsoever Blush
no, finished bfing 3 years ago. I'm 40. And no 'cycle' as such because I've got a mirena. All the obvious and logical cyclical / pg-bf related causes aren't sort of relevant, which is why I'm posting really.

You can still get mastitis even if you're not breastfeeding. Sounds like you need a trip to your GP.

fiddledidee · 24/01/2011 00:38

it does feel like that tbh - had it a few times whilst bfing but had no idea you could get it when not... ta for that

I've not long had mastitis and it sounds like the symptoms I had.

I'd get to a doctor asap before the flu like symptoms kick in - the fever is a real bugger.

Hope you feel better soon

Mastitis- I had this about 3 years after giving up breast feeding when I was on holiday once.

I didn't get to a doctor and it did clear up but about 6 weeks later I had a black discharge from the nipple which scared the life out of me.

My GP sent me to a breast specialist who after a tests said it was connected to the mastitis I had had and it was the infection having found its way out of the milk ducts.

Fidledee have you been to the doctors yet. If it still feels sore it's important that you do. Have you done a breast check yourself to see if you can feel anything.
