Where do you trust on-line for health info?

I use the web all the time for looking up health-related stuff, but am just interested to know if everyone else does too, and whether they just search, or go to regular 'health' sites like NetDoctor (and Mumsnet of course! )

There is some really 'dodgy' stuff out there, so how do you decide which sites to trust?

I tend to do a google search then look at several sites and see which ones are saying pretty much the same thing. If I see something particularly interesting on one site that isn't elsewhere I'll go to somewhere like Pubmed or Cochrane and see if I can see any research.

I also look at the NHS Direct site.

For women's health, one of my favourite sites is Women's Health which is run by Dr Danny Tucker (might be a Mr now, not sure if he has reached consultant status!) who has been around the internet posting on pregnancy newsgroups for ages and always gave sound, well-balanced replies to queries. He is also the health expert on some parenting and media sites, IIRC.

If I find a site I trust, I tend to follow links from it too which isn't always a guarantee of quality but a good site will often have good links rather than 'here's all the links I could find to do with ....'.
