My baby has pimples!

My 10 month old daughter is developing really pimply skin, mostly on her forehead and around her nose. Is this common? Does anybody have any advice - she's a bit too young for acne washes!

I don't know about the origin of the pimples - perhaps you need to consult your doctor, but as for soothing young skin, a herbal remedy like arnica or hypercal cream might work.

I havn't used these creams myself ( have just bought them, so will be soon), but their soothing properties were highly recommended by others here on another message board.

My son was very spotty about 3 weeks after he was born and we found that the most effective treatment was nappy rash cream. Might be worth a try.
I use Aloe Vera gel on my own skin and find it very gentle and soothing but I'm not sure if it is advised for babies.

Just a thought, but it could be ezcema. My son gets ezcema and this summer it has taken the form of pimples on his back - might be worth showing the doc next time you're in the surgery.

My 4 weeks old baby has pimples on her cheeks and the HV said it was my hormones... anyone know anything about that ? I doubt that this - hormones - is the case for Spot's daughter...

Emmagee · 06/09/2001 21:24

Both my babies had it, it is a form of infant acne (yes really!) caused by the surges in hormones from you at the end of pregnancy. You can just leave it, or put Calendula or some similar cream, Nappy rash cream will probably block the pores and won't help much. It does go, but it is ugly!! Our daughter also went bald at the same time, from the front to the crown of her head, she looked like William Hague, with spots! NICE

Sorry Spot, can't help for a 10mth old, but my dd had the baby rash from 2 weeks. I was devastated because it started on her forehead, and systematically spread across her whole head and back. It's true what Emmagee says, it does go, with no after effects at all, but scary at the time!

I tried E45, Johnsons etc, but all made it worse. Best to leave it I reckon, and it goes as quickly as it comes.

My son who is just coming up to a year old has just come out in a similar rash on his belly, like little little pimples. It doesnt seem to bother him, I thought it was perhaps he was getting too hot as the weather had got cooler I had put a vest on him. My mum has made some lotion up for me with oils in and it seems to be working.
