Has anyone's dd/ds had head lice...................need advice

My dd is nearly 4 and has just started Nursery - whilst going for the last 2 weeks, she has developed head lice. I have tried Full Marks and done this twice now as indicated on the instructions but again she is scratching and I can see a few still there, I combed her hair so thoroughly and I cannot get rids of the blighters - does anyone recommend anything else that I could try ??? Also my Aunt seems to think that I should not touch the solution as I am pregnant - has anyone heard of this ??? Help.........I am at my wits end now

Just that with lots of conditioner every other day until she is all clear. Full Marks unnecessary.

Wet combing with any cheap old conditioner and dripping wet hair every other day. It does work but you have to be persistant

Agree, you don't need chemicals, and I certainly would avoid them if pregnant.

Use the Nitty Gritty comb and loads of conditioner. Comb thoroughly every 2 or 3 days for a fortnight. The idea is to get the young lice out when hatched before they become mature enough to lay eggs themselves. I think they take about 4 days to become mature, so if you comb every 2 or three days you are getting all the young lice.

Ditto Flamebat's advice and the nitty gritty comb is fantastic! You can get it comb on prescription (and the Full Marks).

It should say on the leaflet with the Full Marks if you should take any precautions if pregnant. I was prescribed Lyclear when I was pregnant so it's OK to use some of them.

I think using insecticides (because that is what they are) makes people complacent about combing. I found live lice on dd's head after 2 doses of Lyclear, and was horrified, as I assumed they would all be dead. She hadn't been back to nursery, and neither dh nor I had them.

wet combing with a metal nit comb after using tea tree conditioner. use a tea tree leave-in spray too.

thanks to you all - I will try and I will keep being persistant !! Surfermum, I checked the label beforehand and it doesn't say anything about not using whlist pregnant so hopefully I will be OK.

My DD has had headlice for WEEKS - she persistently gets them. She is extremely tactile at school and as soon as they have gone, give it 2 weeks and they'll be back.

I'm sick and tired of them. She gives them to me - I just refuse to wait until she is clear before I hug her - so every 2 days I have to do both of us.

Agree that lotions tend to be crap - not found one yet that gets rid of them all first time, so I wouldn't bother.

Bug Busters kit (on prescription, yay) is the best thing, but it takes so LONG!

Has any one tried electric nit combs? Might save me the Hour spent every other day....
