does it still last for this year?

DS is chronic asthmatic but he never gets invited for flu jabs....no idea why. he doesnt get invited for seasonal flu either - but last year he got invited for both.

nothing this year though, does the swine flu vaccine just last one year?

think ill get him booked in when he gets back from hols, but despite having been a gps receptionist for a year i still have no idea how these things are worked out...no idea why he got them last year and not this? his asthma is severe.

Glad you asked this, as I was wondering too! dd2 and ds both had SF vacc last year, as they were doing all the under-5s up here, but no word this year. Am going to be at the surgery tomorrow, so will mention it to the nurse..

If he is a severe asthmatic, he should be on the list for seasonal flu vaccination. Take this up with your surgery, and make sure it'll work for next season.

The seasonal flu shot this year includes swine flu component (plus a B-strain flu and another H3N2).

Last year's single swine flu shot was a one-off (because of the off-season and rapid global spread). It is common for a pandemic flu strain to become the major strain in the next flu season.

There has not been any significant antigenic drift by the H1N1 strain. A jab last yeart will still protect you from H1N1, but worth your DH getting the seasonal flu shot because of the other strains around.
