I don't know if i had flu/swine flu or not recently.
I few weeks ago lunchtime i felt fine by 4 o clock i was feeling tired, shaky and suddenly had a really high temperature. I was in bed for 3 days then spent another 4 or 5 days just sitting on the couch and having to lie down after a few hours.

My symptoms were

Temperature - at its highest was 40.6
Shaking
Headache
Sore throat ( not constant but pretty bad on and off)
And cough - i STILL have the leftovers of this nearly 4 weeks later.
Cant remember feeling sick but i did totally lose my appetite for at least the first 3 or 4 days.

Does this sound like flu? I cant remember ever having flu before! Never had anything like this.

My children all had a cough and sore throat but no temperature and were only off school for 3 days whereas I was only getting out of bed after 3 days and would never have been well enough to go to school??

kittywise · 30/12/2010 09:03

ferniesounds like the flu to me, it's crap.

I am going back to the dr's today as still not better. My temp has settled down, but I still sweat all the time, wake up soaking wet, lovely. I feel terrible, easily exhausted and shaky, want to sleep all the time, look terrible. Now my ears have really started to hurt. My pelvic floor appears to have collapsed under the strain of weeks of hacking cough, sure I am no incontinentBlush.
4 bloody weeks of this, 4 weeks, what the hell is wrong?

OP hope you are on the mendSmile

Well you also have to remember that something like a third of cases are completely asymptomatic so you may have had it without knowing. It's a bit ridiculous to think that everyone will have it the same. Some people may have it milder than others - the same as with all viruses. There is nothing special about swine flu - apart from its crazy media coverage!

First day cold like sneezes followed by bad sore throat and dry cough with mild fever. Since Christmas day temperature normal then from 28th aches, fatigue, diarrhea and a permanent heat rash on legs and arms. The diarrhea stopped immediately after drinking a lot of orange juice.

And that's where it remains still. I'm functional enough to read the forum. But I fear it will get worse before it improves.

fieldnorth · 30/12/2010 15:25

I should add a total loss of appetite. No problem there. I have two stones of emergency provisions around my waist.

IAmReallyFabNow · 30/12/2010 15:54

Felt a bit better this morning and needed to take the kids for shoes. Completely wiped out once home. DS1 kicked off. Kids at Inlaws now so dh and i can rest.

Total loss of appetite here too - am on the mend but still get knackered so easily. Yesterday was first meal since Christmas - cheese, crackers, ham and a few tomatoes/grapes (sorry to those of you reading this still mid-flu for mentioning food - I felt I'll looking at FB the other day as one of my smug talented friends kept posting pics of her Jamie /Nigella creations!). Just had a small piece of fruit cake today. Nothing tastes right - I could just about taste that the cake was sugary. Last nights might as well have been cardboard which is a shame as I was so proud of the glazed ham I'd made but it will have been finished before I taste it :(
Oh well, on the plus side I've lost 8lbs which should give me a kick start to dieting properly, or at least being more careful about portion sizes when I eat again.

Sorry to all fellow sufferers. I went back to the dr's today. he had much sympathy and gave me antibiotics as he said I had a sinus infection and a build up of fluid and crap behind the ear drum.
I think he's right but the ab's were to humour me most likely. After a month of suffering I think I finally deserve some drugs! So now I feel like my ears are going to burst and have tooth ache in all my teeth! Still today was the first time in 2 weeks I actually felt like joining in with the family dinner, so I think things are finally on the mend.

llareggub · 30/12/2010 20:44

I've got drugs today too! I've got antibiotics from the GP after a month of lurgyness. I hope you feel better soon.

hennipenni · 30/12/2010 23:06

DD1 is in her 3rd week of flu/swine flu now, has lost a lot of weight as has no appetite hardly and is on strong painkillers for rib pain from coughing so much.

pinkstarlight · 31/12/2010 02:53

hennipenni my daughter is also on her 3rd week of swine flu and also lost over a stone in weight.i have heard so many people say they were more or less over it in a week yet my daughters still struggling with it.

rosieposey · 31/12/2010 03:26

Yep me too :( on day 4 now, ds (22 months old) has it and dd1 and dd3. Felt so bad yesterday but today is day 3 of tamiflu and it's brought my temps (around 40) right down so can actually get out of bed now. Dd2 has d&v but none of the rest of us, super achey hips and legs though and nothing could have tempted me to pick up a £50 yesterday, I have never ever felt so poorly in my life. So glad for the tamiflu though - it's definitely worth asking for if your less than 48 hours into your symptoms (I'm asthmatic too) feel weak and rough today but now the temperature has gone it's so much better - it's true though, first couple of days could not get Anyones temps much below 39 even alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol - v scary with the baby!

baabaapinksheep · 31/12/2010 14:16

if you are unable to pick it up because of how you feel you do not have flu - that makes absolutely no sense, surely if you are unable to pick it up then you do have flu!

My DC (2.7 and 13mths) have had flu like symptoms for nearly 3 weeks now. Temp, cough, tiredness, gunky eyes, earache and a bit of vomiting. They're getting a bit better, but still aren't quite right. Is this swine flu? or just ordinary flu?

fieldnorth · 31/12/2010 16:59

I thought I'd been given a miss in the pain department, until today. The pain in my right lung is excruciating. What's going on?

Fortunately I have slow release Diclofenac in the medic cabinet.

kittywise · 31/12/2010 17:56

fieldnorthYou could have pulled a muscle through coughing or you have a chest infestion.
I had severe pain in my chest a week ago but it was all 'clear'. I had pulled muscles all over my stomach chest and back through coughing. As well as losing all of my pelvic floor muscles Shock

fieldnorth · 31/12/2010 19:41

kittywise, don't think that's it. The heavy coughing and sore ribs had subsided before I knew I had all the symptoms of swine flu. And I'm not coughing just breathing now. Time to ring the doctor tomorrow.
