Should I be worried.

Have a cold sore throat earache. Just looked at my throat and the dingle dangly bit at the back of my mouth (epiglottis??) is a deep deep red - almost purple. If I look at it closely its almost pulsing.

Throat is very sore - should I be worried? See a dr? I feel pathetic seeing a Dr with a sore throat but this is quite spectacular to look at.

Maybe you have tonsillitis? You would need anti-biotics in that case. I would see GP, now it might be still quite easy to see them, when it is Christmas it will be a different story. Plus surely you want to resolve this as soon as possible?

my doc won't give antibiotics for things like this, he usually says:

it is likely to be viral

if it is bacterial then by the time a/b kick in then worst of it will be over

he's hard faced Xmas Hmm

hope you feel better soon

can you swallow ok?

dikkertjedap · 21/12/2010 14:02

Well I wouldn't like to have your GP The Foosa ... tonsillitis can be quite serious. Plus there are so many nasty flu viruses around, that once you have a weakened immune system you are much more likely to pick them up.

Hurts to swallow and the dangly thing is slightly swollen but not badly.

My glands are up and my neck/throat aches - Not had tonsillitus for 10 years plus now. I thought tonsiliitus was when you had pussy white lumps on the throat?

uvula infection is possible. strep throat causes deep red uvula/soft palate area also. if it doesn't improve it could be bacterial so may need some antibiotics but may well be viral.

Thank you. Will keep a close eye on it. Am gargling with salt water, dosing up on SevenSeas Tonic and lemsips. I popped out to town earlier for the essential end of the world shop and even went into Boots and treated myself to some nightnurse to ensure I get a good nights sleep - as my mum always says "sleep is the best medicine"!!

Hope its not a Strep infection I was hospitalised in 1994 with a nasty reaction to that - thought it was just a bad sore throat until I completely swelled up from top to toe. Ended up unable to walk with a reactive temporary arthritis and on steroids.
