DS (2 weeks old) has had a cold. Also had a very sicky day on Monday though seems better now. His nose is very snuffly, partly because of the cold, partly perhaps because he threw up a fair amount through nostrils on Monday.
Anyway - have noticed today that when feeding (and breathing through nose) his nose smells - well....cheesy. Like bad milk or bad feet. Have sent dh out to buy saline drops for his nose as I think it needs a clear out. But would I be silly not to take him to doctors. Feel like a fool really, telling people my son has cheesy nose.
He's feeding well and is only occasionally bothered by snuffly nose. Nose isn't runny anymore - occasional bit lumps of snot. Sorry if TMI.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would think the nose will eventually clear out by itself. But if you feel worried go to the docs, nothing wrong with that.

Could he maybe have a touch of Catarrh? that can be quite smelly

What's catarrh? Is that anything to worry about? New mother (albeit 2nd time round) alert!

Cattarh is basically thick snot - sorry if tmi ! If it hasn't drained away with a runny nose then it collects at back of nose and throat and sick will just add to that goo. Bacteria can then breed there creating an ear or throat infection. If you use the drops and an aspirator to clear him out so he doesn't get too snuffly that will help. Also you may want to elevate his mattress a bit to help it naturally run away down his nose.

Don't forget babies do have unfamiliar smells so don't read too much into that alone !

Thanks!
Having already had smelly infected cord stump ds is definitely proving that boys smell worse than girls! Am missing the newborn baby smell this time, compared with sweet smelling dd
