Ok so ive been taking cerazette for nearly 8 months, had non stop bleeding for the first 3 and a half months. Was reffered to Gynae for check up to make sure it was just the pill, he said everything looked ok just that my cervix was a bit red and not to worry it would settle down. which it did, then started having a very light 2-3 day period every 2 weeks, which after what I had been having it was a relief.
Then suddenly nothing for 6 weeks and now spotting again!! grrrr so went to see nurse and she suggested either mirena coil, impanon or get sterilized. So my dilema is what should i try next? cant do combined pill as 35yrs old and get migraines.
Dont like the idea of a coil, but running out of options here! help!

I didn't get on with cerazette either - no bleeding but bad bloating and mood swings. I gained half a stone in 2 months despite doing nothing else differently! I now take Femulen which is another pg only pill. Haven't had any problems with it. Could you try swapping pills?

appledumpling · 17/12/2010 11:54

I didn't like Cerazette either. I felt rubbish and like paddingtonbear1 put weight on without changing my eating or exercise habits.

I now have a copper coil and it is not a perfect solution but much much better than any pill I've ever tried.

The nurse said most other mini pills will do the same thing, and that its pointless trying another one. maybe i should try get appoint with gp. i think i used to take femulen before i had my last baby, which was 10yrs ago now and im sure i fell pregnant while taking at as my dates worked out very close to the weekend i stopped taking it, so be careful paddintombear1 with that one!

ah ok, sounds like the pill is not for you full stop. There's not really that many other options is there, even these days? I never fancied the coil either. dh has recently had a vasectomy so I shouldn't need the pill for too much longer, hopefully!

dragonfly42 · 17/12/2010 12:19

Lucky you! I cant get my DH anywhere near the surgery, hes certainly not up for the snip!! so it will probably be me who ends up having my tubes tied.
You would think nowadays that they could invent something that works without driving you insane at the same time!!lol

I know it's not for everyone but I had Implanon for 9 years and it really suited me - I had very few side effects (put on a bit of weight but I suspect that may have happened anyway!), and you don't have to remember to do anything other than get it changed every three years. It did affect my periods - they were pretty erratic to begin with but eventually settled into something resembling a pattern - but that didn't bother me.

However I believe the implant uses the same hormone (i.e. progesterone only) as the mini pill? Feel free to correct me on that. I did actually go onto Cerazette for 6 months after my last implant was removed (on the advice of the doctor at the Family Planning Clinic) and didn't have any trouble with it. So I'm perhaps not a good comparison for you.

I hope you find a solution that works.

well its weird serenajoy because when i first took cerazette 4 years ago i was fine and my periods stopped for ages. I decided for other reasons to have a break from the pill and had a 3 year break, my periods became very regular but my cycle was 21 days abd they would sometimes drag on for up to 10 days so i felt like i was always on a period, thats why i went back on the pill but it hasnt worked this time!!

It may be worth trying another POP as I tried 2 (femulen and micronor) before ending up on cerazette. The other 2 gave me periods every fortnight but cerazette stopped it completely. I think there are 4 'families' of mini-pill each with different active ingredients.

mini-pills

ok, I think I will go see my GP and ask him about that cos im pretty sure ive tried femulen and had the same problem. I just dont think me and progesterone work together very well!:(
Anyone got any experiences of being sterilized? Just wondering what the after effects can be, Ive got a bit of a thing about hospitals and dont like the idea of staying in for more than a day but looks like i may have no other choice.

interesting - has anyone had dry eyes/ eye problems after taking Cerazette - i notice it is a posible problem listed but it isn't very specific about why/how?

have had really dry eyes recently and can't wear contacts for very long.
