the best thing to do would be ring the surgery back and speak to the Doc.

I agree with LTH. Beta Blockers are serious medication. They must be taken properly, please double check with the GP who precribed them.

Have you googled beta blockers Fio? NdP is right, they're serious stuff. Has he stopped the ADs? I think you need to check and not take anything until you're absolutely clear about it.

oh trollox

yes he stopped the anti depressants because I was getting loads of side efeects and he was worried I would get hooked on them. He said the beta blockers are easier as you take them as and when, but now i am scared! Will ring the surgery

Don't be scared just make sure you are absolutely clear how and when you should be taking them and what your MAXIMUM allowed dosage over a 24 hour period is, before you let the GP go.

I was once prescribed beta blockers for anxiety and told to take them when needed. After reading the leaflet inside i got too anxious about taking them!
Needless to say i am still suffering anxiety some of the time.
I agree that you should speak to the doctor again to be absolutely clear.

I agree with the others that you should check with your doctor to make sure but i wanted to reassure you that they worked really well for me. I have had deoression and used ADs successfully in the past. Last year was very very stressful for me although my depression didn't come back thank God. The doctor gave me beta blockers to help me with the worst times.

Before I started taking them my resting heart rate was approx 90 to 100 beats per minute and this went up to over 120 when active. The beta blockers brought my heart rate right back down to between 65 and 80 beats per minute which helped stop me feeling so panicky.

The good thing about beta blockers is that you don't have to wait days to feel the effects. They start working within about 1/2 of having taken them. My doctor pretty much gave me the same advice as yours did you. He said I could take up to 2 tablets a day if I felt I needed them or just 1 or none at all if I wanted.

I tended to take one in the morning and one an hour before going to bed and this really helped me.

I hope this helps.
