how much will it hurt? having it done today and am very scared - what a wuss! will I be able to cycle afterwards and will I bleed?

you should take some nurofen before hand and expect some cramping/spotting too. it is not painful IME< but a little uncomfortable. make sure you breathe deeply.

i would not cycle home after, you might feel faint and i would maybe get a taxi or a lift home?

is it your first mirena? I would expect 4 - 6 weeks of bleeding/spotting/ depending on how your body reacts to it..

You might feel a little bit of pressure and a bit of cramp whilst it's being inserted, bit it's hardly anything. Afterwards, you might get some spotting and period type pains, but just take some painkillers. Some people feel faint afterwards, so you shouldn't cycle or drive home really.

It's a bit like having a smear test.

I had no problems with it at all, not discomfort really, no cramping and only a light bleed for a couple of days, but even that wasn't straight away. No problems....you will be fime

it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, there was a little blood, but nothing major. Not sure I'd have wanted to cycle very far afterwards though. I walked home (2 mins away) and was fine, did school run (half hour total on foot) an hour later, but was a bit achey.

It was slightly uncomfortable but not really painful. The doctor advised taking paracetamol or ibuprofen before the appointment which scared me but it wasn't necessary.

You might bleed a bit but not profusely - mine was like a light period.

As Lulumaam says, breath deeply as it will help you to relax and avoid dizziness. Try and consciously go floopy too so your muscles aren't tense. It helps.

It doesn't take very long.

I drove home afterwards with a 6 week old and a toddler when I had mine done. You may feel a bit dizzy but they wouldn't let me leave until they were sure I was OK. A rest time afterwards was built into the appointment time so no need to hurry.

I drove home after mine, and then went off to a two hour governing body meeting, just carried on as usual and I was fine. I just took one paracetamol just in case, but I didn't need it.

Fitting of my last one wasn't straightforward and required a few attempts which left me feeling a little bit woozy afterwards (GP said it wasn't uncommon) so be prepared in case that happens. Didn't happen first time round though. Re pain - it's uncomfortable more than painful IME.

thanks - I shall take some painkillers but may have to drive as dh (having carefully arranged for him to have the afternoon off) is ill in bed

MollysChambers - did you have one taken out and another put in on the same day? They are harder to do that way apparently. Your cervix snaps shut when the old one comes out and it is difficult to get the new one in. So I was told anyway. They used asthma inhaler on my cervix to try to get it to dilate too. Weird.

OP - since this is your first one it should be much easier. You shouldn't have a snappy cervix.

I drove home after mine, was a bit period-painy. the bleeding wasn't bad, like last day of a period iyswim. although mine went on for ages (probably 2 months off-and-on) the plus for me was that I haven't had a period since :) The insertion was a bit uncomfortable but not agony.

Mine was fine, no pain afterwards a small ammount of discomfort during.
dd was about 7 months old when I had mine fitted and would not sit in her pushchair so she sat in my arms watching as the coil was put in :)

Niecie - No had second one put in but first had been out for a couple of years for purposes of baby making. The bloody thing wouldn't release the actual coil. Took four attempts. Wasn't particularly pleasant but my main concern was that she wouldn't be able to fit the thing at all. Would do it again.

i would be lying if i said i didn't feel a thing but i have had much worse period pains. i did spot for quite a while afterward but is easily best method of contraception for me :) has been just over a year and no probs :)

I bled off and on for over 2 months after, I got really pissed off with it tbh.

Mind you I've never used a tampon since so that has to be a bonus. I used to have heavy periods so it's fab having no bleed now.
