I've got progressively iller today and am now lying on the sofa covered in blankets, heating on full blast shivering like I'm in the Arctic. DD is also not very well and is asleep on the other sofa. Am praying she stays asleep until DH comes home in an hour :(

DH, DD and I have been oassing it among ourselves for about 6 weeks now - we are not a happy family.

travellingwilbury · 26/11/2010 17:56

Oh No , it is rubbish isn't it ? I did think this morning that it was getting a little better but now it is really painful again .

My gp told me to get a spray called Difflam (I think) it is rubbish ,

I haven't got the chills now that seemed to only last a couple of days but this throat thing is driving me mad .

Ok I am getting bored of this now , any idea how long the razor blades hang around for ?
Day 6 now and day 3 of abs .

I would actually quite like to be able to eat and drink something in the not too distant future .

Is it one where you feel like you've been hit in the face with a sledge hammer, someone's cheese grate red your throat and you have both a tickly and a chesty cough all in one? Oh and with a temp and aches and pains and sleepy sleeplessness?

If so, then yes, I have that too. And I'm tired of coughing. It hurts. :(

BelligerentGhoul · 29/11/2010 15:04

I have got the razor blades and the chills and the sleepiness. No cough at the mo though.

Dp has just arrived with throat lozenges and hot chocolate.

travellingwilbury · 29/11/2010 15:06

That sounds even grimmer than mine sorry .

did have a temp and aches and pains but only or the first 2 days . And no cough thank goodness , that would really hurt .

It is the stupid throat , I could cry every time I have to swallow , Who knew how often you have to swallow saliva ? A lot !
And my earhas been hurting the last couple of days just to really piss me off .

How long have you been poorly sick ?

Been feeling rubbish since last Thursday. Started as a heavy cold and just seems to be dragging on and on. I started getting a temp yesterday. Will have to brave it into work tomorrow but I'm really a mess.

Cough is horrible. I really hope you don't get that too.

Beginning to think I might actually have the flu rather than just a cold. I don't have time for the flu!

I'm taking lots of lemsip to get me through the day, but it doesn't make a great deal of difference.

Any tips are welcome!

silentcatastrophe · 29/11/2010 16:14

I've been given penicillin for tonsillitis. Yum yum. God it hurts

YouKnowStuffingisforLunch · 29/11/2010 16:24

Travellingwilbury I'm beginning to suspect this is your illness that has developed into a chest infection. That would explain it all.

Sorry about the tonsillitis sc

travellingwilbury · 29/11/2010 20:48

Youknow , it does sound like it , maybe some antibiotics are the way forward . I am the same as you , I just don't have time for this shite .

Good news though , the razor blades seem to have got a lot easier . I have eaten a sandwich this afternoon , which is the first real thing I have eaten since tuesday .

I am going to have a curry in a min . So if it is the same thing then it looks like a week long process .

I hope everyone feels better very soon .

Us too - aches, sore throat, fever, chills, no appetite, cold and chesty cough with disgusting mucous! Only dd1 has avoided it so far. Last night, I sweated so much the bedclothes were damp - ew - and I'm sure I was delirious as my dreams were absolutely wierd!

nellieisstilltired · 29/11/2010 21:03

yep its going around.
I work in a walk in centre. just about everyone has it (not staff - yet!).

Then the paramedic walked in and asked if it were chest infection central with us too?

Anyway plenty of fluids rest and paracetamol seem to be the order of the day. Any white spots on the tonsils need checking out.

Its rotten really.

YouKnowStuffingisforLunch · 30/11/2010 07:03

No time to rest! Work want me in. So I'm off to infect them all. Can barely breath, terrible coughing fits every two minutes.

Will take the paracetemol and fluids though. Promise.

Can't imagine my chest is going to like the snow much.

Mole you definitely have what I have. Poor us!

Panzee · 30/11/2010 07:17

Tyrozets are ace for sore throats.
Stick your finger in your ear to help with the pain when you swallow.

magso · 30/11/2010 13:19

When I had pharingitis (razorblade throat)gp told me to dose with soluble aspirin/paracetamol but gargle with it before swallowing. It helped a bit!

alypaly · 30/11/2010 17:25

had it for 3 weeks. bad throat,in fact worst sore throat i have ever had.coughing all night, phlegmy chest. coughing all day, no appetite, lost a stone. Still got a cough 3 weeks down the line. merocaine, difflam rinse or chloraseptic spray for throat and just prop yourself up in bed to reduce the coughing. it really is a crap bug.

BerylStreep · 30/11/2010 17:36

I have had razor blades on one side, and waves of fatigue for the last 2 weeks. I am now on day 4 of antibiotics, and they seem to have worked a bit - so it would suggest mine isn't viral.

I had the same thing, but much more severely in the summer, following surgery. Severe uncontrollable chills, temp of over 104, incredible sweats, strawberry tongue, and couldn't swallow at all. There was absolutely no sign of it getting better on its own. Saw GP after a week. I thought it may have been scarlet fever (due mainly to the tongue), although GP said she thought it may be strep throat and gave antibiotics - I was better in a matter of 2 days.

It sounds like I pop antibiotics all the time, but in fact the opposite is true.

alypaly · 30/11/2010 17:40

a course of erythrmycin helped me to turn the corner with the phlegmy chest

atyourservice · 30/11/2010 20:15

I have had a nasty bug for a month too. Only one day of a sore throat- as was said above only thing that really helps is to gargle with soluble aspirin.

But the main reason I'm posting is that last year I was very, ill with a really horrible razor blade throat and such swollen glands I had trouble swallowing saliva which stopped me sleeping etc etc anyway in the end I went to the doctor who did a blood test and it turns out I had glandular fever.

Nothing to be done but I felt better knowing what was wrong and knowing I just had to rest. Might be worth having a blood test.

whomovedmychocolate · 30/11/2010 20:21

I have blisters running all the way down my throat. In my case though I blame all the antibiotics I'm having from another infection. :(

The good news is strep infections rarely last longer than a week.
