I have a boil and it fecking hurts... any advice?

am a bit Blush so be gentle with me.

I have a boil.

It won't pop and the redness has spread to about a hand-span around the actual boil. It feels hot to the touch and the whole area is sore and hurts (can hardly move!)

Have tried putting germolene and hydrocortisone cream on it but neither seem to be helping.

Have tried to make an out of hours doc appt but my docs says "emergency" only. It's fecking hurting but I don't reckon it's an emergency.

dp out with the car so can't get to chemist or anything right now.

Any advice?

(will I die?)

tia

where is it? if the redness has spread i think you might need some antibugs.

heat?

TheLogLady · 20/11/2010 12:54

got a walk in centre anywhere near?

lollipopshoes · 20/11/2010 12:57

it's... erm... Blush underneath my right breast

Can't get out at the mo as dp has the car and we're 8 miles away from the nearest town (where there is no walk in centre)

Will be going to the docs on Monday but wondered if there was anything I should or could be doing now.

Do you think it's bad enough to pop to the hospital when dp gets back?

Not sure you should use Hydrocortisone. Doesn't it suppress the immune system a bit?

Hot compresses and Magnesium Sulphate boil plasters might help it come to a head.

Any sign of the redness spreading - especially if it's in lines, or any fever or feeling of illness, I think you should get to the Drs at once

lollipopshoes · 20/11/2010 13:02

it's not in lines and only the red area feels hot to the touch - I don't have a fever.

Am 8 wks pg so generally feeling ill, shitty and morning sick-y so not sure whether I'm feeling ill because of that or because of this iykwim

Is a hot compress just like a hot flannel or something?

OP posts:
RobynLou · 20/11/2010 13:07

sounds as though its infected to me - hot and red isn't good. you'll need a course of antibiotics.
I had a boil like this once, antibiotics stopped the redness and hurting.

RobynLou · 20/11/2010 13:08

yes, soak a flannel in water as hot as you can bear, and put it over th boil, that will bring it to a head.

lollipopshoes · 20/11/2010 13:09

so... give me a consensus on:

a) going to hospital as soon as dp gets home.

or

b) waiting till Monday and going to the docs

Will be back in a bit - am off to boil my boil....

OP posts:
RobynLou · 20/11/2010 13:15

see how 'boiling' it goes. My gut reaction would be go to the doctors now, purely because you're pg, and I'd imagine any infection should be taken seriously when you're pg? if you weren't and the pain wasn't unbearable then I'd leave it till mon.

bigchris · 20/11/2010 13:19

A)

lollipopshoes · 20/11/2010 13:20

wow!

Boiling it seems to have worked!

won't go into too much detail (tmi) but let's just say it already feels a lot better.

Will see how the redness and swelling around it feels later on when dp gets home, but it already hurts a lot less.

OP posts:
bigchris · 20/11/2010 20:17

Hope you're okay now!

lollipopshoes · 20/11/2010 20:20

thank you BC Grin

It's still quite painful but not even on the same scale as it was this morning.

Dp only got home about an hour ago so hospital not an option anyway and in any case, I think it's going to be fine.

Will see how it is tomorrow and Monday and then if I think it needs attention will make a docs appt on Monday.

Thanks for everyone's advice

Grin

red hot flannel on it - then just try to ignore

i had one on my arse the other week, was like i'd been kicked really hard. i managed to squeeze it and the relief was heavenly

Asteria · 20/11/2010 20:44

I had one in my ear once - my father (who loves that sort of thing) stuck a cotton bud dipped in boiling water on it. I could actually hear it rupture Grin
have you seen the giant cyst on you tube?

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 20/11/2010 21:13

Add salt to the hot water. Its a great healer!

Will calm and heal the skin around it and wont harm your baby in any way cause its natural.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 20/11/2010 21:14

Asteria I think ive seen that. So gross lol

Panzee · 20/11/2010 21:15

Oh there's plenty of us who are into pus porn. Details please! :o

Asteria · 20/11/2010 21:50

not for those with a weak constitution

rockinhippy · 20/11/2010 22:09

if you have any Garlic or Honey indoors, then you can use either of those smeared over the area & covered over, to keep any infection down until you see the Dr, they are both natural antibiotics & pretty effective too :)

& if theres more puss to draw out, then use the wet "skin" of a raw egg (you know the thin stuff just under the shell) lay it over the area & let it dry out, it will draw the puss out with it, & then follow up with honey or garlic

but DO get seen sooner if it gets any worse, simple things can become serious infections quicker than you realise, having survived septiceamia, trust me, I know

feelingafailure · 21/11/2010 07:57

just saw that pus porn on u tube.i love busting spots but that was yuk.i had to watch it through as i couldnt believe how much gunk came out.he must have been in a lot of pain and inmagine the size of the lump with all that in there.I could watch it on u tube but i think i would puke in real life.still liked watching it sicko me.

Teaandcakeplease · 21/11/2010 08:06

I haven't read all the responses but Magnesium Sulphate paste is good stuff and will draw everything to the surface and heal it. I'm pretty sure you can get it over the counter at the pharmacy. Hope you get better soon.
