Any pain relief tips for neuralgia?

Just wondering if anyone has any tried and tested tips for helping to ease the symptoms of neuralgia, .

To be honest, I didn't realise that there were different kinds of neuralgia, the one that I have is in my jaw and going round the back of my neck and into my ears.

Thanks, I don't get it all the time, just when I'm coming down with a head cold. I've never known it this bad, couldn't get comfy last night on either side of my face and when I tried to lay on my back my neck started hurting, i think I just fell asleep in the end out of sheer exhaustion.
