Any ideas to causes of DD's headaches?

DD is 8 years old. Last Friday she had a headache in school, Saturday at home and Monday and today she has come home with them. They always happen in the afternoon. She is drinking plenty. Not happening at the same time ie during PE/games but lessons as well.

Once a dose of paracetamol is given they seem to go quite quickly. Today she came home with headache which went it then came back and after nurofen has now gone.

Visited the chiropractor last night who did a quick adjustment but obviously this isn't the cause.

Any ideas?

have you thought about taking her for an eye test?

fuzzywuzzy · 20/09/2005 19:12

How are her eyes, have you taken her for an eye test? Sometimes bad eyesight can cause headaches too.

WigWamBam · 20/09/2005 19:12

Get her eyes tested, in case it's that that's causing them. If that comes back OK and the headaches continue, take her to see the GP.

Sorry should have said, eyes tested 3 months ago approx and optician said eyes more than perfect now although she will become shorted sighted in the future.

Do you think I should take her again?

Food allergies? Ds has similar and I am keeping a food diary - chocolate's looking suspicious much to his disgust.
Or is school stuffy? Going back in winter uniform while it's still quite warm can't be nice.

Also - low blood sugar? Try having a biscuit an hur or two after lunch.

Or maybe if the lighting is bad in the classroom or reflections off the board / windows ?? Has anything changed in the classroom recently ??
Is it tiredness ?

Anxiety?

wangle99 · 20/09/2005 19:27

I have wondered about tiredness but even if she goes to bed earlier she lays awake. She normally goes to bed at 8pm (allowed to read for 10 mins and then sleep), she is going to bed in a moment (7.30pm) to see if it will help. We do have an early start to the day (up at 6.30am) but then so do alot of people!

She says she isn't anxious about school BUT she started this school 5 weeks before the summer hols so is still relatively new. They do a lot of intensive work and have homework every night. Not much I can do about it though.

I do wonder if the classroom is too hot - DD says it is very hot in there but they are allowed to get a drink whenever they want to (but I wonder if they actually do).

I think an appointment with the GP is necessary but not being funny what can they do?
