IThis is a bit long sorry but any advice would be so gratefully recieved im so worried, i will go to the GP this coming week but if anyone could shed some light on whats going on id be grateful.

Im ttc and im on cycle 12 and day 13 of my cycle today. Last cycle at the end i got a few +htps which seemed to turn negative towards the time my AF was due. I chart as well and my temps dropped on DPO14 and AF came. I thought it was a bit weird as in all of the time i have been testing whilst i have been ttc i always seem to get 'evaps' or runs of positives on very low sensitivity tests '20' miu or '10' then AF comes so i just assumed i had had a chemical pg.

Anyway i had a normal period this time and last weekend about three days my AF had finished i took a very low sensitivity test out of curiosity as i had begun to suspect that maybe i had a dodgy batch of tests, a line came up on each of the 10miu's i realised that as i am charting and my temps are low again like always at the beginning of a cycle and i have had a full period that i cant be pregnant (also the lines are really faint) so i threw them away (they were 10 miu ones) Then today i had some slightly less sensitive ones left over and thought id would try them. Each and every one has a line on - really faint again but a line.

Now i would be jumping up and down for joy if i thought for one minute i am pregnant but i have noticed pinkish discharge the last few days and this morning i wiped and there was faint brown streaked in my cervical mucus. I know i cant be pg because my temps arent up. I have had a normal period for 6 days. I have no symptoms whatsoever and i ALWAYS get sore boobs and have other symptoms whenever i am pregnant. And lastly if by some randomness i was pregnant the tests by six weeks would be quite strong by now but they arent, for some reason there seems to be faint traces of hcg in my urine and i didnt know why so i googled.

It seems the only reason for hcg in urine is, pregnancy, fertility drugs or a tumor :(

Im absolutely shitting myself as obviously as ive been ttc and getting these random positives that ive been thinking have been evap lines or chemical pregnancies may have been picking up on hcg because i have cancer. I know no-one can say either way and i know i have to go to the GP but im so scared because i know in my heart of hearts that im not pregnant, my temps are low, im getting the usual cycle signs approaching ovulation (i use a clearblue fertility monitor) so i dont see how i can be, also the apparent low hcg (faint lines) would surely be wrong at six weeks (surely i would have stronger lines?

Of course i am thinking the worst because apart from being pregnant its the only other answer there are only the three scenarios that i wrote about above where you can have hcg in your system, just wondered if anyone at all had any other ideas? Ectopic maybe? I dont know if you can get your period and have an ectopic ect ... am also posting this in conception too - ive spent the morning in tears because i know something is wrong, i just hope its not what i think it is :(

Is it possible you had an early m/c and now still have traces? Honestly, googling is such a bad idea - please just reassure yourself that you will see a doctor tomorrow, and apart from the tests, you've had no other cause for concern? Take care and good luck.

Thanks for your reply grumpy will see a GP this coming week. I dont think that hcg would still be showing up if id had a ms two weeks ago though. AF showed up on time and i have had miscarriages and the pg test was clear after a prolonged bleed. I know i should have googled i just wanted to know why hcg would be in my system if i wasnt pregnant (and i can pretty much rule out pregnancy) and the only other two reasons were the fertility drugs or a tumour.

I actually had quite a similar experience about a year ago.

Was also TTC and was getting really faint positives a couple of days before my period was due. Period came on time, so I assumed I had been imagining the faint lines! I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something felt different about the period - maybe slightly lighter - but still lasted my normal 5 days.

Anyway, about a week after my period was done, I did another test - just to see - and it was a faint but definite positive. These were internet cheapies, so got some 'proper' tests from the shop over the next couple of days and they were positive too, and getting darker each time.

BUT I knew that if I having a healthy pregnancy, the tests should have been MUCH darker by that point. So I was concerned about an ectopic pregnancy and made a GP appointment for a few days later. The day before my appointment, I started bleeding again and bled for the best part of 2 weeks. Tested negative after that.

Sorry - just realised that isn't a very happy story! No tumour though, which you are obviously worried about.

rosieposey · 14/11/2010 12:14

Monkey i dont mind if it doesnt have a happy ending just like you said really am more worried about what is making these tests come up positive. Trouble is its been going on for a while now, whilst we have been ttc we were getting what we thought was evaps, false positives and chemical pregnancies. It never occoured to me to test mid cycle after i got AF in the past - the only reason i tested last weekend was because i thought it was a duff batch of internet cheapies but this mornings are a different batch and less sensitive.

Have you been using 'proper' brand name tests? I'm a fan of internet cheapies but I've seen more false faint lines on them than I care to remember. In fact, I even remember trying one with tap water and it had a faint line too!

If you're getting regular faint lines on brand name tests as well as internet cheapies, then it could be something like an incomplete miscarriage maybe?

rosieposey · 14/11/2010 13:04

Well all 4 tests i dipped from two separate samples this morning all had lines on. I went out and bought a clearblue digital test a first response and i just dipped them half an hour ago along with another internet cheapie. The internet cheapie was negative this time as was the FR and CB digi so obviously there was no hcg at all in this most recent sample. I just find it weird that all 4 lines came up with early morning samples (three seperate ones). I am going to book a smear next week, im about 18 months overdue anyway.
