my crown has fallen out and it hurts!

It fell out yesterday and I am not seeing my dentist till Thursday. Its only a year old and was put in over a bottom back molar that had a previous large filling. I think the stump that is left is mostly filling surrounded by dentine and it is soooo sensitive I cant touch it, clean it eat or drink on it. Should it really be causing this much nerve pain? and can the crown be simply cemented back on as I cant imagine letting my dentist anywhere near it at the moment. Please help. I am really nervous its more serious

I think that you can buy temporary fillings in the chemist. My sister recently got one for her son until he could get an appointment. It really helped him. Not sure how you put it on but worth the while asking. Ps you can attend an out of hours dentist in Northern Ireland at the hospital. You still pay for the service just as you would your normal dentist. Not sure if this service is everywhere. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks I found out about this temporary repair kit but as I say I cant even put my finger on the stump it is so sensitive and nerve janglingly painful so I darent attempt to put the crown back on. Just wondering wether this amount of sensitivity s normal or does it indicate some other underlying problem

I think it's probably normal - I know I nearly jump through the roof when my dentist takes the temp. filling stuff off and put the crown on - it hurts until its all sealed up. Everything will be exposed.

Poor you - how horrible. Have you got some strongish pain killers - to help you get a decent night's sleep.

Get your dentist to give you a local when he sorts it out. Is it worth phoning tomorrow to see if they can fit you in during a lunch hour, or first thing maybe?

Oh good at sounding normal- it doesnt give me a lot of pain generally, i can sleep fine etc, its just the cold and hot touching it etc. Yes I will ask for a local anaesthetic which should help. I am waiting till Thursday because I really like this new dentist I have. The dentist that put on the crown was really rough and it wasnt right initially and caused a lot of pain. I had to have it cracked off, impressions taken again and the whole thing re-done immediately after so not too keen on seeing him again! He also told me I was a baby for being so sensitive to the pain!! He wanted me to sit still for 10 seconds while he blasted my exposed tooth with cold air to dry it and wondered why I was squirming and crying- said he couldnt believe I had had children!!! Maybe my nerves are just extra sensitive there but I can still feel this awful nerve pain even after several injections which is why i am so nervous I guess.

Sounds just like how it hurt when I had mine done Sunglasses - the cold air is excruciating - at him calling you a baby, what a f##* !
