Help my dad is in hospital with unexplained bruising to his legs anyone any ideas

my dad has been rushed to hospital today as he fainted and he has got swollen knees and ankles with lots of bruises that are unexplained on his legs can anyone identify or experienced something similar please tell me.

posisble dvt?

blood too thin and possible fluid retention? if blood is too thin then it can cause bruising.

but just wait till the docs tell you, as otherwise you may worry over something its not.

Some prescribed drugs can be associated with increased incidence of bruising. Is he on anything? As misdee says, the doctors will probably be able to tell you more.

Those were my dad's symptoms when he had thrombosis. He still has it only now it's called phlebitis. I'm not sure of the difference but he has to take warfarin every day to prevent the blood from clotting.

Did he have any itching and swelling before the bruises appeared?

I get a weird thing where I get red itching swelling and then it goes down leaving huge bruises. The GP said it was an auto-immune condition. Hasn't happened for ages.

he had one that appeared 2 weeks ago then more appeared every day v painful calves and swollen knees and ankles he takes folic acid vit b12 and iron as he has a enzyme missing in his blood but has took this for over ten years so dont think its that.

no blu no itching or swelling just the bruies appeared and he hasnt fallen or knocked himself.

I had a pulmonary embolism several years ago, had to take warfarin for a year and during that suddenly got a huge black bruise on my bum one day - really scary. So it could be something to do with blood not clotting properly.

Glad he is in hospital anyway D, best place, hope they sort him out soon.

thank you just a bit of shock as bruises are enormous and all over look quite bad.
