Germs on a favourtie toy

Not sure where to post this, its sort of a health problem.

My dd lost her favourite stuffed toy on Sunday. I'm sure you can imagine what it has been like since, tears, wailing, 'its not fair', 'ellie is lost', 'she will be sad' etc etc.

Now where she lost it had two dogs and they found it in the dogs bed on Monday. I went and got it back washed it in the washing machine and it now smells lovely and fresh again. The problem is my hubby is worried about it being full of germs from the dogs. They are country dogs so rake around in all sorts of dead animals, poo, licking their bits and god knows what else.

I have been told that if we put it in a bag in the freezer over night it destroys germs but I thought they only would be dormant. I'm reluctant to soak it in milton in case it falls a part.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can make sure its germ free before I give it back to her? does the freezer thing work?

Thanks for your help.

If it was me, a turn through the machine with some bio detergent would be enough. (Disclaimer: I ignore use-by dates :) )

How old is DD? She'll be picking up all sorts of germs every day from shopping trolley handles, your hands, her shoes, nursery etc.

Put it in the freezer if it makes your DH feel better, but I'd just give it back to her if it was me.

IMHO a whizz in the washing machine is plenty. After all, I wash my nappies in it.

Our dog slept in my 22mo's bed last night though

Vanish does a powder that kills bacteria - Vanish Oxi Action Extra Hygiene. You'll probably find it in the supermarket
