Tonsillitis again (?) and of course its the weekend - wwyd?

I have had a run of infections recently. I had tonsillitis really badly about a month ago, which then came back for a second time once I finished the antibiotics. Both times it made me really ill and I've not really got over it. I am currently signed off work with stress/exhaustion, have just got over a nasty cough/cold bug and the GP has just tested me for glandular fever/hypothyroidism and I'm waiting for the results.

Yesterday afternoon, the throat infection, whatever it is, started to come back. My tonsils don't look very inflamed but there are white spots on them. Swallowing is agony, especially on one side, to the extent it woke me in the night and I couldn't sleep. It hurts all the time, its throbbing even when I am just sitting here not swallowing or talking. It is to painful to contemplate eating. I do feel generally achy etc but I don't seem to have a temperature.

Of course, its bloody Saturday so I can't see the GP. I could go to our local emergency GP but its a 20 minute drive away. My gut feeling is that if I go they will say its a virus so I should wait and see if it gets any worse. The complication is that DH is away and I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. My mum is with my this morning but she's going home at lunch time, so then I'm on my own.

If you have white spots then I am pretty certain it is bacterial. I would go and get ABs.

OTOH you need to get to the bottom of this, it's not normal to get it so often. If it's the tonsils that are at fault you might want to consider having them out or having a laser treatment which is less invasive (not sure if it's right for all the cases, though).

Think you probably need antibiotics again and sooner the better, I'd try to see out of hours GP if was me. If not possible, pharmacist would prob be able to give something that would ease until mon but better off on antibiotics ASAP.

Thanks, that's kind of reinforced my opinion. Will see if my mum minds waiting. Its such a nightmare, I feel like I've been sick for ages and its the second time its come on on a friday evening. Last time we were at my in laws for the weekend and I felt like death by the time we got home on Sunday night

Rang emergency doc and they have prescribed antibiotics without seeing me and are faxing the prescription to boots so all i have to do is collect it.

God, tonsillitis is rubbish, it is just so painful [feeling very sorry for myself ]
