Right TMI but constipation during your period - is it just me?

I don't know why this happens to me? I'm a good person I drink water, lots of water - but of late my period means constipation. WHY? This never used to happen. Could it be a hormonal thing? I am mid thirties and not on any hormonal contraception. Periods aren't very heavy but are a bit sore for a day or two. Am I alone in this - and what should I do?

You're not alone, I am the same for a couple of days when I first start.

I have always been like that tho, ever since periods started at 11 (now 34) so sorry, not much help as to why it has suddenly come on like that.

But you're not on your own!

I'm exactly the same OP.
It always feels as though everything is constricted and therefore constipated. I think perhaps trying to take anti inflammatories may help though. If everything is more relaxed and not cramped, it might make it easier.

I also find that going to the loo whenever I get a cramp eases the problem.

My mum and sister are the same so it's a common thing I think.

Try drinking cranberry juice too. If I drink a few large glasses just as I start to feel the period pain coming, it stops the pain and I don't need to take pain relief. I don't know why it works but it does. It's magic.

THanks - will try juice.

Nope you are not alone :) I have constipation for about a week before until about day 2.

My gp said it was quite common and normal, unfortunately.
