Norovirus and blood group.

well it's that time of year again!
DP and DD both have the vomiting and I've just had diarrhea.

I read something interesting on the internet today though about how your blood group has an effect on how badly you react to norovirus.

Apparently A/B blood types have been shown to have a slight immunity to it whereas the O type blood group suffer move from the virus.

It's interesting as I am A blood type and I don't ever seem to get the D&V bugs very badly whereas DP is O and always suffers.

touch wood! I could come down with it worse later of course or just before I begin a 14 hour day at work tomorrow :(

I'm O and never get tummy bugs.

FrameyMcFrame · 22/10/2010 15:21

ok, I suppose you may have a very strong immune system then/ either that or this theory is bollocks Grin

I am b and never get tummy bugs

bumpybecky · 22/10/2010 15:27

I'm A and DH is O and we both had noro a couple of winters ago.

DH hardly ever gets ill but I catch most things going. He smokes and I don't so I feel it's very unfair!

hildathebuilder · 22/10/2010 15:31

I'm A and have never had any kind of tummy bug in 36 years [hides quickly as fears she is tempting fate}

NothereisnobodylurkingbehindU · 22/10/2010 15:36

This interesting - Dh and I are both A and none of us have much trouble wih this sortof thing.

FrameyMcFrame · 22/10/2010 15:43

Ahh interesting! Maybe there is something in it after all!

I don't know what either of my DCs blood groups are but DD always gets D&V whereas DS doesn't.

anyway, here's the link if anyone is interested in reading it.
Both DC asleep as is DP now so hopefully that's the end of the vomiting part now. :)

I'm B and have had 2 tummy bugs in my life.
One child has suffered from them and the other hasn't so I wonder if they are the same type?

bruffin · 22/10/2010 16:14

I'm B and very rarely get stomach bugs, my dcs don't get them very often either (touch wood) but no idea what their blood group is.

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 22/10/2010 16:24

I'm AB and get loads!

nightcat · 22/10/2010 17:23

I am A and hardly ever get DV (don't recall last time), my dp is O and gets it 2-3 times a year, so maybe there is something in it.
We live in the same house.

FrameyMcFrame · 22/10/2010 18:34

Interesting!
Apparently the Bs have the most protection then the ABs then the As who still have a moderate amount of immunity.
The Os have no resistance at all which is why they suffer the worst.

my dad is A and 89, my mum was O and died at a much younger age
