pain in chest and upper abdomen again

alypaly · 18/10/2010 23:25

Had my gall bladder out last june after presenting at A and E with severe chest and abdo pains. After an ultrasound scan they determined that i had gall stones and whipped out my gallbladder which contained over 200 small stones and 4 larger 1cm ones. I had previously had a bout of pancreatitis too which really frightened me,as i was in agony for over weeks.

Last week i ended up at A and E with chest pain right through to my shoulder blades and upper abdo pain. My stomach is quite bloated, but it is not irritable bowel. Any one else had this. My bloods came back ok for heart problems and crp was normal. Pain wont go and bloated tummy wont go. Gettig really anxious that something is going to happen soon. Got that weird feeling of something imminent or am i panicking?

What did they say at A&E? I would go back to my GP and insist he/she gets it sorted - it's ridiculous you should be in so much pain!

mosschops30 · 19/10/2010 14:55

Can you demand to be referred to GI specialist.
I too have stomach problems and am constantly worried that something is 'not quite right', I am always waiting for a bowel perforation or bowel obstruction or some other such nasty!!

Go and get a referral and see a specialist, most GP's are shite and know very little.
Failing that go back to A&E where they should get you seen by a gastro doc before you are discharged

My bil was found to have gall stones in bile ducts after having his gall bladder removed, I think it was about 7/8 months later. Do as to be referred back to your surgeon or another gastro dr

I am sorry to hear that you're feeling so ill alypaly. I am having similar problems although the chest pain doesn't sound anywhere near as severe as yours. I have a tight-feeling sore chest periodically and constant dull pain in my right shoulder blade and the middle of my back. The top of my stomach hurts when I eat or drink most things (even water). My stomach is also really bloated and protruding at the moment. I have had an ultrasound scan and I do not have gallstones. I do have a folded gallbladder apparently but the ultrasound tech and GP did not think this was relevant to my symptoms. The doc is currently treating me for excess acid and I am due to go for tests at the hospital at the end of the month. My doctor seems to think that the back pain and shoulder-pain can be related to excess acid or a stomach ulcer. Has your doctor discussed that with you?

alypaly · 19/10/2010 23:38

hi shiny....your symptoms sound the same as mine....mine is at the bottom of my right shoulder blade too. I am going to see if i can see my gp tomorrow as i have felt really nauseous all day today. Have put a tens machine on my back and stomach just to dull out the pain...but the nausea is awful.

Canyou....im really worried about more gall stones....what happened wth your bil?

Aly gall bladder removed key hole surgery home the next day no diet change or anything, back however long later another scan key hole again removed the stones that had travelled before the gall bladder op and were left behind and so far so good 2 yrs later but very oily food or extremely spicy food can still upset his stomach for a few hrs after eating

alypaly · 20/10/2010 00:25

i had mine last june. Was very ill for weeks after with horrendous pain and lost a stone and a half. Have lost lbs this week already.

Aly he was fine after op, you should be referred back to make sure all the stones were removed
Did you try lemon or peppermint tea to help relieve stomach upset, flat cola works also
Keep a food diary as well maybe a trigger food?

blinks · 20/10/2010 02:59

is the pain under your ribs?

it's pretty obvious you need to get re-assessed, alypaly. could well be another flare of panreatitis...

blinks · 20/10/2010 03:07

meant to add, that until you're seen, stick to a liquid only diet (soups etc) and avoid paracetemol.

alypaly · 20/10/2010 06:44

just come back from A and E.
Couldnt cope with the pain any more.
They have ruled out pancreatitis as my amylase is not raised. Liver enzymes are fine ,so bile duct not blocked. Although he has said that ther could be a small stone that is moving.

as you said shiny they are also considering an ulcer or gastritis. Come home with as much pain as i was in earlier and a few more needle holes. Feel like a pin cushionSad

Given me omeprazole and co-codamol 30/500.

Gave me a buscopan injection to see if it would relax my bowel and i reated really horribly to it. My pulse which is normally 45 went up to 130. that was a bit unpleasant. And a bit frightening as he didnt warn me.

I hope you feel better soon alypaly. I am trying not to google too much at the moment as I have convinced myself that there is something seriously wrong with me.

MumBarTheDoorZombiesAreComing · 20/10/2010 07:49

I had gastritis 2 years ago which was suspected gallstones as I had all the sympyoms. I also was treated with the same medication you have been given and after about 5 days the symptoms subsided but it took a few months for everything to get back to normal and for me to be able to resume a normal diet.

Hope your feeling better soon. xx

shinybootsofleather · 20/10/2010 08:04

Hi MumBarTheDoorZombiesAreComing. Did they scan you for gallstones? I was scanned and they found that I had a folded gallbladder but no stones. GP and ultrasound tech doubt that this caused my symptoms. Everything I eat makes my stomach bloat and causes pain. I have also had pain under my right rib, middle of my back and in my right shoulder blade. Is this something you experienced as well? Sorry for all the questions. Just wondering if gastritis may be what is wrong with me and perhaps alypaly.

MumBarTheDoorZombiesAreComing · 20/10/2010 20:10

had a scan all was clear they said - altho they did think that was what was wrong. The gastitis was diagnosed on the scan being clear. The plain was as you described. I have IBS and so d still get random pains and if I eat chips or something I do get pain and usually vomit so don't think my gallbladder is brilliant iyswim.

I just do not eat anything high in sat fat and I am fine.

alypaly · 20/10/2010 21:07

thank you mumbar. did you have similar symtoms.what caused yours.

Sorry to hear you've been so bad alypaly. Wrap up warm and watch some box-sets to cheer yourself up! I've been off work since Monday myself and I am worrying that I will be in trouble for my sickness when I get back.
Mumbar - it's reassuring to hear that yours has been treated successfully. Just hoping that it's straightforward when I go for hospital tests at the end of November. The ultrasound tech mentioned that a folded gallbladder can show that it's been under stress but the GP had never heard of this.

alypaly · 21/10/2010 21:24

thanks shiny....am wrapped up on couch tonight unfortunately forced happily watching the football.
