Can anybody shed light on my symptoms?
I'm 49, always been healthy but in the summer started to feel unbelievably tired and sluggish and my brain feels foggy much of the time. I had a blood test and kept having to go back for more as my blood wasn't clotting. I thought I might be anemic as I get breathless too.

Well, they say I'm not anemic and I've been for a lung xray (haven't heard anything yet) and they took more bloods testing for Factor VIII, Factor XI and Factor XII, plus lupus anticogulant and anti cardiolipin. Still waiting for the results. TBH, i'm not so worried about the clotting, just want to feel NORMAL again.

Now I'm wondering if it could be my thyroid as I have got fatter recently . . .Sad

also DH noticed a fatty lump at the bottom of my neck, where I used to have a bony indent.

Any ideas?

I have ITP which is an auto-immune blood disorder, which means it doesn't clot. I am tired lots of the time and have to pace myself.

I have a fat lump too - my Mum calls it my dowagers hump!

FooffyShmoofer · 19/10/2010 10:30

Please try and get a Thyroid test. I had all the above (except the lack of clotting). Was left so long I was very ill and absolutely huge. When it was eventually discovered my TSH levels were dangerously low.

Not doom mongering honestly But I would ask specifically for that test it all sounds too familiar. Smile

Thank you Fooffy and Scaryteacher. Sorry to hear you are both suffering but it is good to feel I am not alone.

I'm determined to get a thyroid test soon even if I have to go private because if I don't do something soon, I will no longer have a job as I can't function!

Scary - my fat lump is at the front of my throat. It's not huge but I know it's there!

Off to look google ITP and inspect back for dowagers hump!

Thank you so much.

No sweat. I wouldn't say I'm suffering per se, but just have to pace myself and be aware that if I get a virus/bug it takes a long time to shake it off.

CaptainSquidBones · 19/10/2010 22:51

Dowagers hump not a symptom of ITP but can be a result of steroid treatment.
Hypothyroidism a distinct possibility don't go private just go back to GP and ask for it - not a major deal.

Only thought is ask for prolactin blood test - simple test by gp (or whoever takes it!) - just due to lump on neck.

madamy · 20/10/2010 09:34

Sounds v much like low thyroid levels esp with lump at throat (goiter/goitre). Please go back to your GP, explain about the lump and your weight gain and get a thyroid function test.

Vulgar · 21/10/2010 10:26

I've been to the doctor and she looked at my thyroid levels and they were Ok (1.7) but I badgered her into retesting me. She said the lump was too low to be a thyroid one. Maybe it's just flab (yikes!)

Meanwhile the hospital has been in touch and one of the Factors (VIII, XI, XII) is wrong. They say it shouldn't be causing these symptoms though and is nothing to worry about.Hmm

Interesting about the prolactin test.

Mm - higher the proclactin, it can cause a growth on pituary tumour (most are harmless) tablets reduce them High prolactin over 1000 are treated, mine in 800's so no treatment, but no pregnancy!
