heavy blood loss 2nd period in 2 weeks

I had my first period after my baby was born (10 months or so) about 17 days ago, lasted 7 days, averagely heavy, what i expected. Prior to this, I had one period before conceiving ds, then no period for over 3 years as had implant and side effect was no period. This period was the first period without any contraception running through my blood for years. I have breastfed my baby throughout, although he is now weaned mostly, and has significantly less breastmilk than before, does still have plenty though.

I started the mini pill at the same time as the period started.

I have just come on again, woke in the night to heavy bleeding, not gradual like before. Not like past periods either. I am passing clots, not huge ones, but enough to notice.

Is this normal? Am I likely to have irregular heavy periods for a while? its horrible.

I had two quite close together after I stopped BF DS. Also a bizarre one which stopped for 2 days in the middle and then started again.

I think our bodies have to get used to having periods again after so long without. I'm not sure about the effects of contraception though, having never taken any.

cuppa thanks, i don't know if the contraception has anything to do with it either. I thought the mini pill stopped/lightened/made regular the bleeding, but who knows.

However, this one is very very heavy, and I Do Not Like It. I best start eating some iron rich food right?

Such changes should always be reported to the GP.

atilla you think? I am a bit nervous of going to the gp, as a while ago, I had a bit of female trouble, some internal pain and discharge, back ache, and because i mentioned loss of libido (which since returned) she gave me a form about depression and pretty much said it was all in my head, made me feel rather stupid, even though I had left it a while before going, before feeling sure something was possibly wrong.

Since then, I have had a period, and it all has eased up, and think it might have all been to do with imminent period, but feel very reluctant to go to the only female doctor at the surgery now. Maybe I could go to the family planning centre?
