hi

Bit of a senseitive ????? but i shave every other day "down below" anyway im sure i have an ingrown hair i have felt and the small tender lump is to the back right by my "lips"

Its bloody painful but tried to have a look but cant really see it as its so far back, and deffo no chance of getting it out however you do that

Bit worried that it may be something else, havent nicked it

In desperation have put a salt water compress on it but dont know what good that will do

Any advice etc greatly appreciated as am at a loss

Have you got a hand mirror to have a better look?
No idea what you'd do once you've had a better look mind.
Just out of interest, why did you put 'down below' and 'lips' in '' marks?

A product called Tend Skin is really good for ingrown hairs and razorburn, might be worth getting some. Think it's about £8 but definitely worth it, and it lasts ages. I wax and used to get ingrown hairs, but get none whatsoever now. Shaving is notorious for ingrown hairs...

I'd just leave the lump for now, it's almost certainly an ingrowing hair and will usually sort itself out on its own.

Have you not got a female GP at your surgery or a practice nurse - however embarrassed you feel you have after all only been shaving - am sure they have had to help people whose 'downstairs' - see Im doing it now !! - problem is caused by much more embarrassing activities than that. They will not bat an eyelid honestly they must see a dozen or more peoples bits every day - and will sort it out for you.

But if you really cant face it then the mirror - you can get a cheap light up one with huge magnification for putting in contact lense - is a good idea - at least you will know what it is then. Good Luck.

The Tend Skin stuff I think is basically alcohol and it works by getting rid of as many layers of skin as poss, reducing the difficulty the hairs have from coming through. It doesn't hurt (although it sounds like it should!) and doesn't mean the hairs show sooner. It's pretty good stuff, I was dubious but impressed.

I personally probably wouldn't go to GP or nurse about something like that (because I've harassed them enough lately about something else) but if it's really uncomfortable it's probably worth it. Especially as you can't see it to deal with it!! I went to GP once about an ingrown hair, but I thought it was something much more sinister. It felt like a weird tube on my left labia, like when you've not got any earrings in and you fiddle with your ear lobes. That turned out to bs an ingrown hair and eventually went. Didn't hurt though. Sorry I'm just rambling now! Hmm

So yes, buy tend skin, and see nurse if you can :)

Oh and the product also helps relieve any infection due to its antiseptic qualities

You could have a Bartholin's cyst/abcess - I would get it checked out. info here

PfftTheMildySpookyDragon · 15/10/2010 19:59

for the future - exfoliate. I find exfoliating regularly when you shave any sort of groin area really helps with ingrowing hairs.

And maybe try a wax?

theywillgrowup · 15/10/2010 19:59

Where can you get Tend Skin from? I've been looking for something like that for ages.

CheeeseOnToast · 16/10/2010 19:19

Madonna, I got mine from amazon, paid a couple of pounds shipping from somewhere in France I think

MiasmARGGHHH · 16/10/2010 19:24

I got a load of ingrown pubic hairs from my cesearean scar. I picked the top off them and pulled them out with tweezers. I enjoyed every minute of it!

If I were you I'd have a hot hot bath and then get a mirror to squat over (won't be pretty) then attack it with some tweezers and then bath it with salt water.

Hope it feels better soon !

I can't shave my bikini line because I suffer terrible irritated skin and also got a huge amount of ingrown hairs, although most of mine are around my knicker line.

I get waxed now, every 4 weeks and use the Australian Body Care cream (tea tree) and it really prevents ingrown hairs.
