Pregnancy and having a congenital heart defect

Hello,
I am new to this so please be patient.

I have transposition of the great arteries (TGA), corrected with a Mustard op at the age of 1, and have been given the go ahead by my cardiologist to have a baby. I have had plenty of tests done, and keep myself very fit and healthy, and have been told I should be able to carry a child with little problem, while also being aware of the possible risks to hy health.

I am 30years of age, so getting on a wee bit for someone with a heart defect. What I am looking for are people who also have congenital heart defects, TGA or otherwise, who have gone through pregnancy, child birth and child rearing, and be able to tell me about their experiences, good and bad.

I hope I don't sound too bolshie, but I really do not want any lectures/sensationalism etc, as I encountered that sort of attitude when I went on the GUCH website and it really put me off, I just want honest experiences from those who have gone through it.

Many thanks in advance :)

Hello stripey - nice to meet you. I'm afraid I can't help with your question but just wanted to say good luck. My dd has CHD and has just been transferred over to adult services - it's great to hear from someone doing 'normal' stuff and not letting the CHD get on the way. Smile

On Facebook there's a "Mustard of Sennings Survivors" group - a lot of experience & discussion about having kids on that.
