posted yesterday in chat as i had developed a very itchy rash, it started tuesday evening but just thought it was a heat rash, it was worse in the morning so went straight to my doctors who prescribed me antihistamines as he thought it was an "allergic reaction" (to what, i dont know, as i havent eaten or used anything different recently)

its much worse today even though i have been taking the tablets and covering myself in calamine lotion, its sooooo itchy i cant bear it and barely slept last night :( my skin feels really dry, hot and tight as well, its awful, it doesnt actually LOOK too bad, from a distance my skin just looks red and blotchy but when i touch it it is really lumpy. it is also hot to touch.

have made another docs appt for 10.30 today so i am really hoping something can be sorted out.

just wondered if anyone has ever had anything similar and what the hell it is :(

I had something similar once, went to dermatologist, he didn't know, said could be an allergic reaction to a medicine or something, prescribed some antihistamines, it took a few days to go away. Haven't had it since.

What did the doctor say?

have no experience but have you tried an oatmeal bath to help with the itching? You're supposed to put oats in a stocking in the bath, not sure how long for, and then get in the bath yourself. The avenins from the oats are healing and soothing for itchy skin.

Or you could get some Aveeno cream (made from oat avenins)

hello, thank you, have been to docs, she said anti-histamines can take up to 72 hrs to work and i only started them yesterday so may have a day or so to go yet :( .

she also prescibed me aqueous cream with menthol for the itching, which does help a bit but makes my skin so cold and greasy.

she says what i have is called "urticarea" (sp?)

urticaria is just the medical term for itchy skin rash - nettle rash type thing.

yeah i googled it and it did look pretty non specific :(

i hope it goes soon its awful, i cant even get dressed, been sat in PJ's nearly all day apart from when i went docs.
