hi i have a large complex ovarian cyst which is due to be removed on tuesday and when i saw the doctor for pre op assess yesterday she said, oh you have been rushedt hrough cos of your ca125 reading -

this is the marker for ovarian cancer

mine is 80 and the normal range goes up to 35.

i understand it can be much higher than that, and also i have endo and fibroids which can raise the reading but they said it was high enough to need 'checking out'

should i be worried? does this mean i am more or less likely to have it?

i dont want to make a fuss or worry unneccesarily but i dont like even being in the 'ballpark' of being considered to have ovarian cancer..

anyone with any experience of this that can offer any advice?

thanks.

I had an o.c scare when I was pregnant with DD 4 years ago. I presented with growths which appeared to be fibroids but could have been something more sinister. Cue lots of blood tests, internal scans, MRI etc and consultations with Oncology specialists. My ca125 was initially around the same figure as yours I think but I was fairly reasurred that the specialist said that someone with o.c would have a reading much higher - in the 100s and 1000s.

Try not to worry (easier said than done I know). As you say, endo and fibroids can give you a higher reading (mine were eventually diagnosed as fibroids) so chances are this will be the reason for your raised results.
