Wind of the bottom variety - TMI

I am suffering with terrible windy farts, it has been going on a long while but I have had a few very bad episodes recently that make me want to try to resolve this if I can. I almost never burp, actually can't remember the last time I burped but I tend to get very full up with wind, it is not 'trapped' and doesn't hurt but I do get a very bloated, even distended tummy with it. It tends to be worse in the evening and overnight. The farts themselves are pretty foul smelling and not pleasant for me or anyone else who has the misfortune to live in my vicinity.

This is actually putting me off eating, at the moment I try to go as much of the day as possible without eating to try and get back to a normal, non wind-filled state. e.g. I haven't eaten yet today and don't yet feel 'empty' because of the wind. To describe how bad it is I'm feeling full of wind all the time and farting about once a minute in the evening (at its worst).

I suspect there is some kind of digestive problem going on, red peppers are a definite no-no for me as they produce a very disgusting wind and lots of it. But, e.g. last night I didn't eat anything that should have caused a problem but had a terrible night and blamed the cat for one particularly fruity smell. I am thinking that I am not digesting food well as the farts smell very foody and not really a classic fart smell.

I have looked into active charcoal and acilodophilus (sp?) but does anyone have any advice for me on what to do, I'd be very grateful.

Sorry if I sound disgusting, I am actually an attractive and normal person in real life.

Honesty, Have you tried Pepto Bismol? I swear by it. Medicine better than the tablets. Won't be any good for you long term but might clear out whatever it is causing this and enable you to start afresh? (Excuse the pun!)

Also, not eating will be causing the wind to get worse.

Lastly, maybe get a food intolerance test done. I know a few people who have had this done and it is amazing the things it shows. Things that you should avoid totally, and things you should limit etc.

Let us know how you get on.

I'd go and see my GP if I were you - change in bowel habits are always something to get checked out.

Okay thanks, I haven't heard of pepto-bismol, I'll look into it. I know I should see the GP but I've been seeing him for so many other (seemingly more serious) things that I haven't mentioned it.

Where can you get a food intolerance test done?

Some Health Centre's do them. Do a search for Food Intolerance Test and your area and it will come up.
