Hi, could anyone be able to tell me whether I will have a General Anesthetic for the above? The whole thing is making me feel a bit squeamish. Thanks.

From what I know (working in cervical screening lab) colposcopy and cauterisation are local anaesthetic procedures. Hysteroscopy is often done in the same unit, so I'm pretty sure that's usually local as well.
Colposcopy is basically the same as a smear test, the colposcopist uses a speculum and then a special microscope to magnify the cervix. More info here including a video of colposcopy. Hysteroscopy is placing a thin tube through the endocervical canal so they can visualise the endometrial lining and cavity.

As far as colposcopy goes, there's quite a few women on here who've had it (including me) and it's not too bad really.

You can ask for a GA, it is likely to delay your investigation and you'll need longer to recover from it. Have you had GA before, because you can feel pretty rotten afterwards TBH.
I'd suggest ringing the colposcopy unit and asking them to talk you through and perhaps that will put you more at ease? Do ask about a GA if you def want to have it, as they'll need time to sort it out.

I don't know about the cauterisation, but I've had both colposcopy and hysteroscopy,I had a local for the hysteroscopy but nothing for colposcopy with biopsies being taken.
It was OK - not in my top ten fun experiences, and I felt I needed a cup of tea before I drove home, but that was about it.
Now I've started posting I think I have had cauterisation,a long time ago, pre DCs.
I think that was no anaesthetic, but it is a long time ago!
HTH!
